There is an immense construction project going on all around the arch, so it took a bit of hiking to get over to the park itself. |
Sky-scraper window washing... for the non-faint-of-heart. |
... and after the six hour drive ended up at the home of Tim and Linda and their two kids. I hadn't seen Tim since 30 years ago, so of course I hadn't met any of his family. It was fun remembering things from the Marion, IL days!
I'm convinced that the people who speak disparagingly of Kansas have never been in this particular area. It is so picturesque and beautiful it made my heart want to explode. In the morning I walked past a gorgeous limestone farm house with immaculate yard, perfect red barn, wind blowing through the corn fields surrounding it on all sides.... it was straight out of a painting.
Tim and Linda's house (Tim built it himself) is lovely and from their back windows--where there will soon be a large deck--they have a sweeping view of the whole area. We had such a fun time there. The kids wanted to stay forever! They played board games, played music together, took a tour of the garden, practiced some archery, and I'm not sure what else went on.
Tim and his daughter are building a teardrop camping trailer together, so I got a sneak preview of the work in progress. They designed it themselves and it is going to be the coolest thing ever. It's going to be for sale when it's done.... just sayin. Although it might already be spoken for by yours truly.
