Calico and Apple Valley

Friday morning we left Williams, AZ at a leisurely pace and headed towards California.  We stopped for a picnic in Kingman and the wind nearly blew us away.  It was also 84 degrees (according to the thermostat in the car) but the wind made it feel chilly--we were all putting on our sweatshirts.  It was a strange sensation!

We got to Calico Ghost Town (in Yermo, CA) at 4pm, just an hour before it was supposed to close.  The woman at the entrance gate just flagged us threw at no charge, so we got to see the place for free!  I'm sure she realized (as we soon found out) that we got there too late to do much of anything.  We wanted to pose for an old-fashioned photograph complete with costumes, but there wasn't time.  They very thoughtfully gave us a coupon for when we come back sometime (??!!??)  Oh well.

When Calico closed at 5 we drove on down to Apple Valley, to Hank & Gay's house.  It's so fun to see them!  After a scrumptious dinner we went over to Mike & Gay's to enjoy the hot tub in the back yard... and the desert sunset.

The girls got in the pool even though it was already chilly and there was a breeze.

When they finally got in the hot tub Michelle and I joined them and we had a fun time!

We also had the special treat of getting a tour of Gay's craft room where she makes all sorts of amazing things (some of which can be found at www.kwizerahope.com, a website dedicated to supporting children in Rwanda).
