The girls browsing online to choose a design. If we had had more time or had planned ahead more, they could have created their own designs. Next time....
Paul setting up the first 3D printer.
Tulip wanted to combine elements from two designs: she liked the body of one dragon, but the wings of another. Paul used some software to meld the two designs.
During some of the downtime the girls entertained themselves by drawing pictures.
This photo demonstrates once again the limitless uses for legos....
Once the 3D printing got underway we had several hours to kill until it was finished. Paul needed to construct the exhaust pipe for the new laser etcher, so while he worked on that, I walked the few blocks over to the beach with the girls and let them play in the water.
Back at the maker space, we discovered the guts of a piano hanging on the wall in the courtyard, so naturally the pianists in the group had to pose.
Checking out the progress on the printer.... about halfway done!
By this time Paul had the laser machine hooked up and ready to go. We donned our protective eye gear and tried it out.
The first few trial runs were less than successful so we just kept tweaking it.
Here's A with her 3D printed "Harry Potter Minion."
The girls' projects are finished printing!
SB's design was more intricate and is taking more time to clean out the supporting strands from the printing process. Once it's all done, I add the picture of hers.
After a couple of tries we figured out how to edit a photograph to print properly on the laser engraver. I was printing a little piece that I'm going to turn into a fridge magnet for my trio, Trio Nova Mundi. Here you can see all four tries that we made (with Bear's swan next to them to show the scale).
Next week Paul will be giving a tour of the maker space to the mayors of Ventura, and Loreto, Mexico (Ventura's sister city)!
