Easter

We were originally going to stay at the beach and come back Monday morning, but our cabin was so freezing we decided to check out Sunday morning and come back after our egg hunt with our friends.

The cabin looks kind of cute in the pictures, and I'm sure is wonderful during the hot summer months, but it was kind of miserable this time of year.  At times I had every layer of clothing on, with two wool blankets wrapped around me, just to stay warm.  There was no heater in the cabins, and at one point we turned on all the gas burners of the cooking stove at the same time to try to get at least a little bit of warmth going on.  In addition, the toilet wasn't bolted to the floor and nearly tipped over every time someone sat on it.  As if that wasn't enough, if you wanted a hot shower, you had to work some sort of temperature gauge on the outside of the cabin.  If you got it wrong, you had the option of running outside with your towel wrapped around you in order to adjust it.  Honestly, I just didn't bother--I figured I could wait to shower until we got back to Santiago.

The girls, of course, loved it.  :-)

The girls started a fort in the yard outside the cabin.  If we had stayed there longer, they might have been able to build the hay walls up to a respectable height....

They put together a collection of acorns or seed pods that they found around in the yard.

This was their "fire."  In case you can't tell, they were roasting a bear on a spit over the fire, which they had hunted in the adjacent woods.

After we checked out from the cabin, we went to our friends' house for an Easter egg hunt.

A relaxing foot bath after the hunt....

Despite the fact that was f-f-f-f-f-r-eeeeeeeeee-zing, everyone in the family (except me--I was on the porch drinking hot tea with my coat on) decided it was the perfect day for a swim in the pool.  Really.

When they'd had enough of ice-swimming, we headed back to Santiago.  Here are the mountains as you come into the city by road.

Back in our apartment in Santiago, we had for dinner what we usually have for breakfast/brunch on Easter:  biscuits and egg gravy.
